At least 15 people are dead — some of them children — and about 30 people are missing in severe flooding in Tennessee, according to a sheriff. He said his best friend is among the dead.
At least 16 people are dead and 51 others remain missing after severe flooding in Middle Tennessee on Saturday, according to the Humphreys County Division of Emergency Management.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in the county and the city of Waverly, the county seat, the agency said in a statement Sunday. "We are asking that residents please stay out of neighborhoods and roadways while the rescue effort is underway," Waverly Chief of Public Safety Grant Gillespie said in the statement. An 8:00 p.m. curfew will remain in place this evening, the statement said.
