And one elated master of ceremonies whose name now graces one of the world’s premier jazz education organizations for the first time in its 33 years of existence.This year’s event, held Tuesday at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, spotlighted emerging guitarists and renowned trumpeter, composer and educator Blanchard, who received the Institute’s Maria Fisher Founder’s Award.
Blanchard was also especially pleased to be recognized by the institute’s board chair, for whom the former Thelonious Monk-monikered organization was renamed this year. I use them as the model as to what it means to truly be an artist, not just a jazz musician but an artist.”
