PUBLISHED 4:17 PM CDT Apr. 17, 2023SAN ANONTIO — There was a lot of emotion during Gov. Greg Abbott's visit to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in San Antonio.
Abbott is talking about school vouchers, which is a part of his school choice bill — a bill the House voted against because it would use public school dollars to support private schools through voucher programs. It was, however, supported by the Senate, which leaves the door open for it to get passed.
“Texas doesn’t fund public schools as well as other states do. We are far down on the list,” Kauffman said. Families can get up to $8,000 per student, but the average tuition for private schools in Texas is around $10,000.
