Texas Army National Guard is preparing to move its 36th Aviation Combat Brigade to Lackland, bringing 26 helicopters to the Alamo City. They'll operate out of the historic Kelly Field.

U.S. Army Air Calvary servicemen walk away from an AH-64 Apache helicopter after it landed in the parking lot at the Kemah Boardwalk last November in preparation for the Salute to Military Service weekend. The helo is similar to the one that will be used in today's Army training exercise in Texas City and La Marque.People in San Antonio are used to seeing F-16 jets streak across the sky, but soon they’ll very likely notice something new — attack helicopters buzzing overhead.

The guard already operates at Kelly. Its 149th Fighter Wing has flown F-16 Fighting Falcon jets there for decades. It was settled only after a national commission studied the matter. Not everyone in the guard and reserve kept their helicopters, but Texas did.
