About 1,600 miles northeast of Austin, Texas’ Marcus Carr has been putting on a point guard clinic against some of the best young talent in the world.
On Saturday, Carr and Team Canada will again clash with Team USA, this time in the round-robin tournament’s semifinals. The winner will face Team Italy or Team Brazil in Sunday’s title game.“To get this opportunity to come out here and play with them, and show our country, show everybody that’s watching what we have to offer and compete on the international level at home has been great,” Carr told Canada Basketball. “It’s really fun.
Carr’s first campaign with Texas culminated in two standout performances in the NCAA tournament, including a 15-point, nine-assist, one-turnover triumph in a first-round win over 11th-seeded Virginia Tech. He followed up with 23 points and seven assists while dueling against Purdue's future first-round pick Jaden Ivey, though the Boilermakers’ imposing size proved too much for Texas in its 81-71 second-round loss.
