Texas has a total of 404 total dog attack incidents and three Texas cities are in the Top 9 - with Houston at 1 with 57 incidents, Dallas at 3 with 44 incidents, and San Antonio at 9 with 32 incidents in 2022.

TEXAS - The National Dog Bite Awareness Week begins Sunday with Texas ranking second on the national list of dog attacks.

Aggressive dog behavior is a common safety concern for postal service workers so the organization is providing a public service campaign to provide information for dog owners. Mail carriers know all dogs can bite, even those perceived as nonaggressive. Dogs are generally protective of their territory and dog owners have an important responsibility to control them to ensure safe mail delivery.

“When our mail carriers are bitten, it is usually a ‘good dog’ that had not previously behaved in a menacing way,” said USPS Occupational Safety and Health Senior Director Linda DeCarlo. “In 2022, too many aggressive dogs impacted the lives of our employees while delivering the mail. Please help us reduce that number by being responsible pet owner who secures their dog as we deliver the mail.
