Texas made a late addition to its 2023-24 team with the signing of four-star guard Chris Johnson, a former Kansas signee from Missouri City.
Former Fort Bend Elkins guard Chris Johnson committed to Texas on Monday following his release from Kansas.AUSTIN – When Kansas released freshman Chris Johnson from his signed letter of intent earlier this month, there was a sense the four-star guard from Missouri City would turn to another Big 12 team closer to home.
Johnson’s announcement on Monday morning brought Texas’ 2023-24 roster up to 11 scholarship players. The program has room to sign two more, but first-year coach Rodney Terry is expected to stand pat with summer practice already underway and the roster holes plugged. As a senior, Johnson averaged 5.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and a team-high 3.6 assists in 16.7 minutes per game for the 23-3 Eagles. He played alongside Oregon-bound Kwame Evans Jr. , Duke-bound Sean Stewart , Washington-bound Wesley Yates and five-star junior Liam McNeely, a top Texas target for the 2024 recruiting cycle.
