The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die features at least seven kings, though not all of them have a direct counterpart in real history.
The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die features seven kings, as the name suggests, but their real place in history isn't always the same as their place in the show. Seven Kings Must Die wrapped up The Last Kingdom's franchise in style, capping the show's five-season run with 2 hours of thrilling action. The film covers aspects of Bernard Cornwell's last three novels in his Saxon Stories series, though the story is heavily altered to fit into a 2-hour movie.
In The Last Kingdom, Edward does much the same, however, he also has the help of the Uhtred. Edward does not make an appearance in Seven Kings Must Die, but his death is the catalyst for the plot, setting off the brief conflict over his succession and beginning Aethelstan's expansion northward. Edward dies of old age in the movie, leaving just one English kingdom unconquered: Northumbria.
Constantine II survives Seven Kings Must Die, but his son is killed in battle, which is exactly what happened in real life. Constantine fled Brunanburh and ruled in Scotland for several more years before abdicating his throne in 943 and entering a monastery. The death of his son, who would have been king after him, is considered one of the deaths in Seven Kings Must Die's prophecy.
King of Shetland Shetland is a cluster of islands north of Scotland that was ruled by the King of Norway for several centuries and was under Norwegian control by the time the Battle of Brunanburh occurred in 937. The King of Shetland that appears in Seven Kings Must Die is probably based on a lord or earl that ruled in the name of his overlord in Norway.
