Even Colin Farrell's TheBatman co-star John Turturro didn't recognize the actor while he was in makeup for his character, Penguin. 'I just thought he was some rough-looking guy. I was just staring at him.' 😂
The Batman star John Turturro reveals that he didn't recognize his co-star Colin Farrell while he was in full costume as the Penguin. Matt Reeves' highly anticipated release had an incredibly successful opening weekend, raking in an eye-watering $258 million at the global box office.
The Batman draws inspiration from a number of classic Batman comics including The Long Halloween and Year One, with the film focusing on Wayne's second year as Gotham's protector as he learns that not everything is about vengeance, shifting to become a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham.
I had no idea it was him, I just thought he was some rough-looking guy. I was just staring at him. It was pretty incredible. In the interview, Turturro also went on to praise Reeves' work on The Batman, sharing that the director created a somewhat collaborative space for the actors to incorporate their own ideas. This is evidenced in the way Falcone touches Selina's face when they are first introduced on-screen, which Turturro says was his own idea.
Given that Farrell reportedly spent four hours in the make-up chair each day in order for the team to achieve the Penguin's distinct look, one can only assume that Turturro's reaction was the desired effect of the make-up artist's hard work. Despite the Penguin having only appeared in a handful of scenes in The Batman, Farrell's character has quickly become a fan-favorite following the film's release.
