Women’s Equality Day has been celebrated annually in the U.S since 1971 as a day to mark American women’s advancements towards equality with men and commemorating August 26, 1920 when a woman’s right to vote officially became part of the U.S Constitution. Today, women’s equality is about so much more than the right to vote. It’s about working to ensure that girls and women worldwide have equal opportunities to education and employment, that they can live free from violence and suppression, and the continued battle against discrimination and stereotyping.
So to mark Women’s Equality Day 2019, here are ten thought-provoking books exploring gender equality and women in society:This had to be number one on this list for me. The first volume of Maya Angelou’s autobiography was originally published in 1969 and covers her early life from age 3 to 16.
