What’s better than happy hour with cheapo drinks? What about a happy hour or daily special with free food? Several places around the Bay offer this sweet perk, sometimes when you buy a drink and sometimes with no strings attached at all. Here’s a sampling :Casa Barotti, Berkeley
This spizzicheria, or place of “nibbling,” is the perfect spot to decompress and whet the appetite for a later dinner. If you stop in between 4 and 6:30 p.m. and order a glass of wine, beer or an Italian cocktail you can partake in complementary aperitivo from the kitchen, such as focaccia and pizzas with “al trancio” crusts like you’ll find in Northern Italy.
All right, so the only free food you’ll get at Kingfish is popcorn. But it’s from a legendary popcorn machine, witness to so many joyous Warriors celebrations, hard-fought battles over free shuffleboard tables and just-ordinary nights when Oakland locals coalesce around cheap shots and beers.
