There are now more guns in America than people.

It is also true that many gun owners twist the 2nd amendment into a blanket justification for them to gather as wide a variety of guns as they can stuff into their display cases. They would not take kindly to any effort to take those weapons away. Politicians are not about to change their pro-gun positions. They rely on generous funding from the gun lobby when campaign time comes around.

Clearly, the only way to counteract the gun lobby is to be direct with each and every candidate who is seeking our vote. Ask him or her: “Do you support common sense gun safety legislation?” Do not vote for anyone who cannot answer that question with a simple “Yes.”It should be a given that anyone purchasing a gun should be vetted for any prior criminal record and for any impairments that could make them dangerous.
