Netflix's The Crown will reportedly bring back all three actors who have played Queen Elizabeth II for its upcoming sixth and final season.

The Crown is reportedly set to bring back every actor who has played Queen Elizabeth II so far. The series, which premiered on Netflix, follows the real-life monarch through various stages of her life, recasting the role after a significant time jump every two seasons. The series is ending with season 5 and season 6 , following her life - and that of the royal family - through the 1990s and early 2000s with Imelda Staunton in the lead role.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT According to The Sun, in addition to featuring Staunton in the main cast, The Crown season 6 will bring back both previous actors for special scenes. Reportedly, new scenes have already been shot with Claire Foy and Olivia Colman . The series has also reportedly cast Viola Prettejohn as an even younger Queen Elizabeth II in her pre-coronation period during World War II.

How The Crown Could Bring Back Every Queen Elizabeth II There are a variety of reasons that The Crown would want to bring back all three actors. Considering the fact that it's the show's final season, this will be something of a victory lap. There is also the fact that Queen Elizabeth II passed away shortly after season 5 was completed but before it aired, so this final season will be even more of a tribute to her life than the previous five.

The most likely way for these actors to return would be in a series of flashback sequences. However, these are newly written scenes so they will likely show moments that have not appeared on the show before. The writers probably chose scenes that will mirror each other so they can be easily cross-cut to compare how the Queen's life has changed over the years.

A scene that could be even more impactful for fans of The Crown would be to have all three - or even four - actors occupy the same space at the same time. This would have to be a fantasy sequence of some kind, where the Queen is reflecting on her life. Whichever way they choose to reunite the The Crown cast, it will be a full circle moment for the finale of such a popular and long-running series.
