Kerby Jean-Raymond, creator of the Pyer Moss label, built a following by breaking the rules of fashion

Since founding his clothing label Pyer Moss in 2013, Kerby Jean-Raymond has defied fashion’s conventions. Last September, he wowed the industry with a runway show in Brooklyn on the grounds of a 19th-century free black community, featuring black models and a gospel choir. Mr. Jean-Raymond’s rumination on everyday black life—as well as his high-concept, socially conscious designs—made him a star.
