The four intertwined arms were inspired by a photo of the civil rights leader and his wife when they learned he had won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

King is remembered for his important contributions to the civil rights movement in America.

The 20-foot-high bronze sculpture called "The Embrace" is said to be one of the country’s largest memorials dedicated to racial equity. King first met his wife in Boston in the early 1950s, when he was a doctoral student in theology at Boston University and she was studying at the New England Conservatory of Music.
