was introduced in the Senate back in October calling for the 3-digit hotline to be put into effect. “To prevent future suicides, it is critical to transition the cumbersome, existing 10-digit National Suicide Hotline to a universal, easy-to-remember, 3-digit phone number and connect people in crisis with life-saving resources,” the bill reads.
In response to Thursday’s news, Sen. Cory Gardner , who cosponsored the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2019,: “Today's action by the FCC is a historic step toward making the 988 suicide hotline a reality. But it doesn't mean our work is over. Congress still has a major role to play in creating and supporting this hotline and ensuring that states have the flexibility to make it work.
