President Trump declared his intention to set tariffs on some French goods at 100%. It follows a French decision to tax U.S. tech companies on their revenue, in a move that the American administration sees as 'unfair'.

Other European goods were also affected, such as Italian parmesan, German pork sausages, Spanish oranges and Scotch whiskies.In parallel, France launched a “digital service tax” in 2019 to try to target large tech companies who have many French consumers but who do not pay tax in France because they are headquartered elsewhere.
This 3% annual levy affects companies such as Google, Amazon and Facebook who have annual sales of more than 750 million euros and French revenue exceeding 25 million euros.
