The Jedi had an epic Captain America-type shield
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Jedi Order used to have their own version of Captain America in the Star Wars galaxy, complete with a legendary shield. However, new insights have revealed an intriguing mystery regarding this ancient relic and its whereabouts during the Skywalker saga. Wielded during the High Republic era, one Jedi sought to protect the innocent by fully embodying the core tenet of the Jedi Order to always protect and defend.
As featured in the new High Republic anthology book Tales of Light and Life, a short story from author George Man entitled "Shield of the Jedi" serves as a continuation of his novel The High Republic: Quest for the Hidden City. In the story, Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani underwent her Jedi trials to become a Knight. However, her master Silandra Sho provided her with a rather unique test, entrusting her to find and recover her shield which she intentionally hid on the world of Batuu.
So far as Rooper knew, the shield was an ancient artifact of unknown origin that has been passed from Jedi to Jedi across the void of centuries, since the days of the Old Republic, or perhaps even earlier. It was a priceless relic, irreplaceable, and revered by many in the Order as a symbol of the Jedi's true role in the galaxy - to be a shield for those who could not shield themselves. To hold back the darkness. To protect those most in need of help.
A uniquely powerful plasma shield capable of blocking both lightsaber strikes and blaster bolts, the ancient Shield of the Jedi is quite strong. Likewise, Sho would often use the Force to guide her shield's path when thrown while also boosting her own strength and speed. Keeping that in mind, it's not hard to compare Sho to Marvel's shield-wielding super-soldier Captain America.
