Following various reports of a surprisingly low budget, The Marvels budget has reportedly been revealed, thanks to new a report from Forbes
Forbe’s latest report notes that, according to financial documents released in new company filings from Disney, The Marvels budget is around $270 million, with the company having spent $274.8 million on the film during its time filming. The company also revealed that it had received a $55 million subsidy from the United Kingdom during its time filming, bringing the total budget to around $219.8 million.
This means that in order to become a “profitable” film, The Marvels would have to make roughly $439.6 million at the global box office. While not a foregone conclusion, the original Captain Marvel made more than twice that, taking in $1.1 billion by the end of its run. The news comes following reports that the budget for the film was significantly less. In a profile on director Nia DaCosta, noted that the budget for the Captain Marvel sequel was just $130 million before removing that mention from the article in a later revision. It’s unknown if that number was just for the strict production budget of the film, which wouldn’t take into account any marketing or promotion costs.
