The Matrix 4's new trailer is giving us déjà vu.
franchise, titled, is finally about to arrive. On 22 December, legit days before you pig out and sign off for Christmas,will be bolting back onto our screens as Neo, nearly two decades after we last saw him fill that character’s boots.
As the date draws closer, we’re being given more and more insight into the film’s moodboard, and how much it will look back and reference themovies of the past. Most recently, a quick new teaser showed how the film will loop in moments and motifs from the franchise; in particular déjà vu. In the original franchise, a black cat was used as the reference point for this. In one scene in the original, Neo and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar realised they were being trapped inside a hotel by the agents pursuing them when a black cat Neo had already seen repeated its exact same movements, making them realise they were in a loop.
, inviting them to pick a glistening blue or red pill that unlocks one of 180,000 short teasers of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clips and darkly menacing narration from the characters.
