70% of the NFL player workforce is Black. Out of 32 teams, there are just two owners who are not white and none of them are Black. There is currently one Black head coach and 6 Black general managers in the league.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was Flores being used as a prop by the Giants to check the Rooney rule box. The Rooney Rule requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coach openings. Flores had one such interview scheduled with the Giants when he got a text from former boss Bill Belichick days before the interview congratulating him on getting the gig. Only Belichick texted the wrong Brian.
