Thank “The Song of the White Wolf”.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT One Piece quickly became the top global title on Netflix, proving the merit of the first-ever live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s hit manga. The original series is the longest-running manga in history; while it’s too early to tell if the series will be able to adapt Oda’s story in its entirety, a confirmed second season proves that, at the least, it will try.
Adapting One Piece was, without a doubt, a Herculean effort on behalf of everyone involved. This is especially true of the music, as evidenced by a soundtrack that is a whopping four hours long. When asked about the length of the soundtrack, One Piece co-composer Sonya Belousova shared an anecdote during an interview with Screen Rant that ties back to her chart-topping work on The Witcher:
Sonya Belousova: When we did The Witcher, we had the song called "The Song of the White Wolf", which plays in two versions. It plays with a solo violin at the end of the episode, and then it plays with the vocals performed by Declan de Barra in the end credits. Well, we just included the end credits version with the vocals, and we're still hearing back about that—that we did not include the solo violin version. It's the same exact piece of music, just the solo violin version.
Why One Piece Chose The Perfect Composers In Sonya Belousova & Giona Ostinelli Belousova’s explanation for One Piece’s mammoth soundtrack is slightly tongue-in-cheek; the four-hour soundtrack is actually less than half of what she and her co-composer Giona Ostinelli wrote for the show. It’s the amount of intention behind the score, though, that proves that Belousova and Ostinelli were by far the right choice to score the series.
One Piece is known for its cast of beloved and well-developed characters, and Belousova and Ostinelli wrote music handcrafted to each one’s unique personality, going as far to assign specific instruments to each of Roronoa Zoro’s three swords. What’s more, Ostinelli and Belousova chose seemingly incongruous instruments and genres from all over the globe to make One Piece feel like its own unique world.
