“The sun can encourage free radicals, which can lead to damage within the hair cuticle and can leave the hair feeling incredibly dry,” he tells us.So, what kind of damage could you be left with? The sun could actually leave its mark on your hair in myriad ways. “For coloured hair, the sun can cause discolouration and fading,” says Reed.
For fine or thinning hair, a sunburnt scalp could come accompanied with brittle lengths, as the UVA rays weaken the protein structure of each strand, compromising its strength and resilience. And dry hair will almost certainly be left feeling drier after a day soaking up the sun.Rather than furiously slathering on nourishing masks, treatments and oils after your holiday this summer, try preventing the damage from happening altogether.
