I'm not sure, guys. Maybe the fact that she's the vice president of the United States had something to do with it? Maybe it'd be wise to proceed with extreme caution when it comes to the health of someone one heartbeat away from the presidency. Just a thought!
“We know that the way that presidents, or in this case vice presidents, are treated is not necessarily the way the average person is treated,” former Biden transition team COVID-19 advisor Dr. Celine Gounder told Politico. “It’s not just about what is best for that patient — it’s about what’s best for the nation.”
There's just nothing of news value here. SARS-CoV-2 is a"novel coronavirus," but there's nothing novel about individuals contracting the virus at this point in the pandemic. The old framing of COVID-19 stories no longer applies, no matter how hard people try.has the headline,"Kamala Harris went to California to recharge. She returned to Washington with the coronavirus," but the story itself makes many of the same arguments made in this one.
To be sure, there is news value in the fact that Harris tested positive and will be absent from public life for a few days. Beyond that, there are only three developments in Harris' bout with COVID-19 that would be newsworthy: 1. She becomes severely ill. 2. She violates federal COVID-19 guidance at some point along the way. 3. News outlets refuse to abandon a way of framing COVID-19 stories that no longer applies to where we currently are in the pandemic.
