Houston dogs find homes after cross-country flight
Along came Kathryn Bender, an assistant economics professor at the University of Delaware who arrived at the fairgrounds looking for a small dog to join her two-person, three-dog household.
More than 200 dogs from the Houston area this past weekend found homes with residents in the northeast through the mega adoption event hosted by the Brandyine Valley SPCA. Shelters from six states participated in the event, including two from Texas: the Montgomery County Animal Shelter and Harris County Pets.
Volunteers, including County Judge Mark Keough, helped exercise the dogs before putting them in kennels and crates equipped with water and loading them onto a cargo airplane. "It's just a matter of trying to make the world better one pet at a time, except we’re doing it a hundred at a time," he said.
