The first live televised presidential debate was held on Sept. 26, 1960, between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon.

The very first live televised presidential debate was held on September 26th, 1960 the Republican candidate, Vice President Richard M Nixon and the Democratic candidate, Senator John F Kennedy at the time, Kennedy was *** Senator of Massachusetts and Nixon was the vice president of the United States.

Kennedy was the apparent winner of the debate due in large part to him being comfortable in front of the camera. While Nixon on the other hand, appeared nervous. Kennedy ultimately went on to win the election becoming the 35th president of the United States. In 1968 Nixon ran again for president and won after declining to debate. His opponent, televised presidential debates returned in 1976 and have been held every election since.
