'Authentically beautiful without being fussy' was the wedding aesthetic, says the bride.

, a New York–based music-creation start-up, were separately having dinner with friends at Supper, a low-key Italian joint in the East Village, when they first caught each other’s eyes. “For whatever reason—it probably had something to do with the bold red and blue Breton stripe shirt he was wearing—David piqued my interest from afar,” Mia remembers. “So, I asked my friend Laurel Pantin, the fashion features director at, to give my business card to him after I left.

Three and a half years after that business card was slipped to David, he proposed on Shelter Island. “I was dealing with some unexpected work logistics for a photo shoot happening in the city that day, and I also managed to fall off my bike as we were cycling back from the beach on sandy roads—so I was not exactly having the greatest day,” Mia jokes. After they got to the hotel, things started looking up.

David’s family has a place in the Berkshires, and he and Mia spent a lot of time there over the years. Once they turned to wedding planning, it seemed like a natural place to host their nuptials. “I also like that the Berkshires is reasonably easy to get to for those flying into New York City,” Mia adds., in Sheffield, Massachusetts, and it ended up being the first and last place the couple considered. “We felt sure about it almost immediately,” Mia says.

In the 24 hours leading up to the wedding, it rained like crazy—but the clouds finally parted, and the sun shone down on the lush grounds below just as the guests started arriving. “It was pretty miraculous,” Mia notes. “The grass was even dry by the time our reception started.” They were married in the middle of a big clearing at August Moon, surrounded by wildflowers and evergreens, with green mountains forming the background.

From the beginning, Mia and David’s goal post-ceremony was to throw the most fun, exuberant lawn party anyone had ever seen. There were toasts by family members, and chef Eliza Glaister used ingredients that were all seasonal and sourced from within 50 miles of the venue. The DJ, Chances With Wolves, happened to be the husband of the wedding photographer and managed to keep everyone, old and young, moving nonstop.
