The God of Thunder is finally outmatched.
Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Immortal Thor #1As the ruler of Asgard and the God of Thunder, Thor is one of Marvel Comics’ mightiest heroes, but it appears his new foe may be even mightier. Known for his great strength and mastery of the elements, the Odinson wields a variety of inherent abilities that are only strengthened by the aid of his signature weapon, Mjolnir.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Immortal Thor #1 by Al Ewing, Martín Cóccolo and Matthew Wilson puts the God of Thunder’s mettle to the test as Thor seemingly meets his match against Toranos, the Utgard-Thor. The dark deity makes no secret of his disdain for mortal lives as his elemental attack on Thor threatens to destroy the entirety of New York City.
The Odinson is a regular sparring partner of characters like the Hulk or Thanos, so anyone tough enough to withstand even Thor’s weakest attacks is a force to be feared. And this issue itself acknowledges that when it comes to those of Toranos’ race, “the Gods were as mortals to them,” putting this Utgard-Thor at a power level which fans have rarely ever seen. And if even Thor’s strongest attack can’t defeat a single one of these foes, the God of Thunder is at a major disadvantage.
Thor May Not Be Mighty Enough Thor is undoubtedly one of the Earth’s greatest defenders. But his initial confrontation with Toranos proves that even the King of Asgard has his limits. Hopefully, Marvel Comics’ Thor will have what it takes to weather the inevitable storm to come.
