Rukia finally gets her chance to shine, big time.
Warning: Spoilers for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode #19One of Bleach's most underappreciated characters, Rukia, finally got her time in the spotlight in episode #19 of Thousand-Year Blood War, "The White Haze," which sees the Shinigami vice-Captain demonstrating her Bankai for the first time, and it's as glorious and gorgeous as fans expected it to be.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Rukia has had a rough time in Thousand-Year Blood War so far. She was rather easily defeated in the first Quincy attack, and along with Renji, her brother Byakuya, and Ichigo, found herself so badly injured that she needed special healing from Squad Zero. That time with Squad Zero also afforded her some valuable training, however, and that training paid off in spades with her return to the battlefield in episode #19.
Rukia's Bankai is One of the Strongest In Bleach Relatively few Bleach characters have access to Bankai, and until this episode, Rukia was not among them. Just as Renji learned his Bankai's true name while in the Soul King's Palace, Rukia must have had some similar realization that allowed her to finally achieve the Zanpakuto's ultimate unsealed state.
Äs is frozen solid and obliterated by Rukia's Bankai, Hakka no Togame, even with his Vollstandig ability released. Rukia freezes an absolutely massive area, and her ability is so powerful that Byakuya warns her that, if not used carefully, it could very well kill her as well.
Rukia Is No Longer Bleach's Damsel In Distress Rukia's Bankai appears to be inspired by the Yuki-onna, or snow lady, a type of Japanese yokai/monster that resembles a woman and lives in blizzard-prone areas, luring men towards her and to their deaths. She certainly proved to Äs that she was at least as deadly as the legendary creature, and the ethereal beauty of her frozen state is a perfect fit as well.
