Major League Baseball will soon kick off the 2023 regular season with defending World Series champions the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on Thursday evening. The team will celebrate its 2022 championship win to get things started.
TEXAS — The Astros have a seven-game homestand. From March 30 to April 2, the team will face the White Sox in four games, and the Detroit Tigers in three through April 3 to 5. The Astros’ first game against the Chicago White Sox will be at 6:08 p.m.
Before the matchup, three-time Grammy Award winner and Houston-native rapper Megan Thee Stallion will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Singing the national anthem will be fellow Houston-area native Cody Johnson. Joint Services Color Guard will present the nation’s colors while he performs the anthem.
More celebrity appearances include actor Mark Wahlberg, who will make the “play ball” call. Promise Harris will sing “God Bless America.” Through the weekend, fans can claim giveaways that include a Jeremy Peña Bobblehead, a Jeremy Peña World Series Replica Ring and a Yordan Alvarez World Series Replica Ring.
