.TIDAL is opening up its low-cost student plan to high school students in the U.S.
The streaming service is the first to offer a student plan to high schoolers.to high school students in the U.S., the company announced Wednesday . The discounted subscription tier was previously available to college students only.
“TIDAL continues to explore new ways to ensure everyone has access to the best music streaming experience,” said TIDAL COOin a statement. “As a music and entertainment platform, our goal is to make musical knowledge, discovery, and cultural awareness accessible to all.” Moving forward, high school students ages 16 and up can purchase a TIDAL premium membership for $4.99 monthly or a HiFi membership for $9.99 -- both 50% off the regular price. Current members who are now eligible for the discount can switch over to a student plan using the SheerID verification program, which is also used to verify new members. All new users will receive a 30-day free trial.
Notably, all the other major music streaming services -- Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and Pandora -- offer discounted student plans, though TIDAL is the first to extend it to high school students.
