The Ohio Department of Agriculture has removed 10 dangerous and wild animals from a Vinton County animal rescue over the last 4.5 months, after its owner was convicted of stealing money from the township where he worked.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Agriculture has removed 10 dangerous and wild animals from a Vinton County animal center over the last 4.5 months, after its owner was convicted of stealing money from the township where he worked.$310,000 in inappropriate Vinton Township expenses

. The township’s former fiscal officer, Cyril Vierstra, who legally changed his name to the mononym, “Cy,” was criminally charged and sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison in February for the theft and ordered to pay restitution of $339,700, which includes the theft amount and audit costs.

Ohio Department of Agriculture employees have removed two tigers and eight primates from the facility in the past 4.5 months, said Meghan Harshbarger, the agency’s communications director. The tigers went to a sanctuary in Minnesota. Four of the primates went to a sanctuary in Florida. The Department of Agriculture is currently holding the other four primates in its Dangerous Wild Animals facility, working to safely move them to a sanctuary.
