ICYMI: Timmerman hangs on to defend SaskAm golf title
Playing on his home Cooke Municipal Course in Prince Albert, Henry managed to put the squeeze on defending champion Roman Timmerman down the stretch with long-distance birdies on Holes No. 16 and 17. He then nearly forced a playoff, if not for a putt that burned the edge on No. 18.
A bogey on 18 was good enough to cling to a one-shot victory as Henry also bogeyed after a wayward tee shot and second shot that landed under the trees adjacent to the green. His chip fell short and his 15-foot putt burned the edge of the cup. “I usually make five or six birdies around here , usually, but usually it’s a lot easier to play around here with not as fast greens or as thick of rough,” he said.
Not only did Timmerman repeat as the Saskatchewan Amateur champ, he won his second tournament in as many weeks.
