HarryPotter star Tom Felton opens up about a terrible audition experience with Sir Anthony Hopkins where he felt horribly unsuited for the role: 'He knew straight away that I didn't know what I was doing.'

Tom Felton shares details of a terrible audition with Anthony Hopkins. The British actor first stepped into the spotlight as a child when he was cast as bully Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise. The movies, based on the series of books of the same name, first premiered with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. Felton appeared in that film alongside fellow young actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Harry Potter franchise was a huge milestone for Felton, boosting the actor into stardom from an early age. To this day, he is still a huge advocate for all things Harry Potter. After the production of all eight movies of the franchise was over, the British actor has gone on to develop his career even further, starring in movies like Netflix's Message from the King, and a few British television shows.

I got the sides at very last minute. I knew I wasn't right for the role. I had never seen Psycho, and the film was about the making of Psycho. I didn't know anything particularly well, but I knew I wasn't right for this. I've very rarely called my agent before going into an audition and said 'I really don't think this is for me', but I did in that occasion. And he said, 'just go in, show your face, show you know the work, and trot on.

How Felton's Career Evolved After Harry Potter Even though Hitchcock did not work out for Felton, the good news is that he didn't let that disastrous experience with Hopkins deter him from further developing his career. Most likely, Felton moved on by focusing on roles he knew he would be good for.

Interestingly enough, though his Hitchcock experience didn't go so well, there was one way that Harry Potter could've helped him. Through that franchise, he got to work with iconic screen stars like Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter. Going forward, Felton likely knew how to present himself in front of veteran performers. Unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough to help him face Hopkins in the audition room.
