Anyway, after emailing Bob to say thank you for everything, the Disney boss suggested that they jump on a call to talk about things and see if they could work something out.There was just one small problem — when Bob called a couple of days later, Tom was in the pub and a little merry."My family and I went to the pub quiz in our local town," Tom revealed."We're doing a quiz and I'm like, three pints in, haven't eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number.
With some encouragement from his dad to just take the call anyway, Tom answered and had a chat with Bob about Spider-Man, which kickstarted the talks that sorted the mess out."I basically just said thank you for the opportunity and then he said, 'There's a world in where we can make this work,'" Tom said."Then there was a bunch of phone calls back and forth from Tom Rothman [Chairman of Sony Pictures] — he was really instrumental in the process.
Tom even got emotional on the call with Bob because he"felt like it was all coming to an end" with Spider-Man and the MCU."We had a really good plan with what we were gonna do with Sony, the future of Spider-Man was still very bright, but it would've been a shame to take him out the MCU," Tom said. He added:"That's where he belongs and we've built such a strong character in that world, and it would've been a shame to lose that. But I'm just really glad that we managed to work it out."
