USD faces long odds to advance after falling 12-3 to Corvallis Regional hosts
NCAA Tournament baseball is such that one moment you can be sitting pretty and nine innings later find yourself in dire straits.The University of San Diego knows the feeling after Saturday night’s 12-3 loss to Oregon State.
USD started Ryan Kysar against Oregon State, which had the redshirt freshman right-hander on the ropes from the get-go.Two runs scored on an error by USD third baseman Jack Costello. Two more scored on a triple by Oregon State’s Jake Dukarts.Oregon State added a two-out, two-run homer in the second inning by Garret Forrester.Kysar was gone before the third inning was over, replaced by senior right-hander Garrett Rennie.
The Beavers poured it on thereafter — even stealing a base leading by eight runs in the seventh — to win with relative ease after needing some late runs a night earlier for a 10-inning, 5-4 win over New Mexico State.
