If there's one thing people in Massachusetts aren't looking forward to these days, it's topping off their gas tank.
in early March when the average gas price spiked 54 cents to $4.16 per gallon of regular, according to AAA. And it didn't stop there, rising to $4.35 the following week. Residents haven't seen figures that high since 2008.
Soaring gas prices are a nationwide problem, and the Biden administration announced in March it would beginin a bid to tamp down the trend. But it's unclear how quickly or how much the move will make a difference. Massachusetts members of Congress have also directed criticism toward oil and gas corporations.
For now, the pump is yet another place where rising consumer costs have put a deeper-than-usual dent into people's expenses.
