Prime takes it to the hoop!
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Transformers are about to own the comics world thanks to Daniel Warren Johnson and Skybound Entertainment, especially as a new variant cover sees everyone’s favorite Robots in Disguise owning the basketball court. With the franchise set to be rebooted in the all-new Energon Universe continuity, excitement for the Transformers is at a fever pitch, and this new variant cover should only add to that growing excitement.
Shared by Felix Comic Art via X/Twitter, Johnson and Mike Spicer’s variant for Transformers #1 should bring a smile to the face of anyone around in the 1990s. Acting as the perfect tribute to the sport, this beautiful two-page spread on a cardstock cover will be available exclusively through Felix Comic Art.
Johnson goes all-out with the cover, not content to merely provide a single image, but rather a whole scene of Optimus Prime absolutely owning his Decepticon opponents on the court. This cover — along with all other editions of Transformers #1 — will be available October 4th from Skybound.
While the cover is meant to be a humorous tribute, it does reinforce the fact that Johnson is the absolute perfect choice to launch this new era of the Transformers. One of the most exciting cartoonists of his generation, Johnson has consistently wowed comics fans with his work on titles like Murder Falcon, Wonder Woman: Dead Earth, and Do A Powerbomb.
Daniel Warren Johnson Is the Perfect Choice for Transformers With both Transformers and G.I. Joe set to enter a brave new era thanks to Skybound Entertainment’s new Energon Universe, there has never been a better time to be a fan of either of Hasbro’s signature franchises. Thought it seems unlikely that Johnson will be portraying a scrimmage game between the Autobots and Decepticons in the new series, hopefully fans won’t otherwise be disappointed in Transformers #1.
