In the Energon Universe era of the Transformers, no one is safe... as evidenced by these shocking deaths in the very first issue!
WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Transformers #1As Skybound Entertainment's new Energon Universe debuts, the Transformers are learning that no one is safe. The recently-released first issue of the new series features more than one shocking death, making it clear to readers anything possible in the new continuity. With such a high body count, the new Transformers series sets the stakes right out of the gate, resulting in a first issue that is positively gripping.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Transformers #1 – from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Mike Spicer and Rus Wooten – starts with a shocking death, as newly-repaired Starscream’s first act is to coldly murder Bumblebee while he’s still in stasis. Declaring himself the new leader of the Decepticons, Starscream then goes off in search of more Energon to power them, putting him into direct contact with the local humans, with deadly results.Starscream Shows No Mercy To The "Pathetic" Humans Of Earth In advance of the release of Skybound's Transformers #1, Bumblebee was not included on the roster of Autobots that would appear in the series – now readers know why.
Starscream Shoots Jetfire Point-Blank In The Chest Starscream picks Dave up as easy as if he were a ragdoll, and squeezes him until he pops right in his hand. It’s a shocking way to end the issue, and it sets the stage and raises the stakes for Starscream’s upcoming rampage on the rest of humanity in the next issue. While certainly an intense way to debut, these deaths in Transformers #1 are more than mere cheap stunts.
The unexpected deaths also play into the franchise’s history, as the 1986 movie was famous for killing off nearly the whole of its classic G1 cast, including Optimus Prime himself. In spite of all the carnage, Johnson is careful to show the cost of war on the surviving Transformers. Optimus gets a brief moment to mourn over the fallen Bumblebee, and is by Jetfire's side in his final moments.
