Tree trimmer pinned, killed by palm fronds in Bonita identified [Breaking]
as he worked to trim a palm tree at a residence in Bonita was identified Wednesday as an Escondido resident.
Bardomiano Bautista-Perez was more than 50 feet up a 100-foot palm tree when dead palm fronds fell on him and trapped him, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and the Chula Vista Fire Department. Fire officials said he was clearing the palm tree’s “skirt” when the dead fronds collapsed about 11:20 a.m. at the house on Bonita Verde Drive, a cul-de-sac near Rohr Park.Bautista-Perez’s co-workers tried to help and called 911, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Firefighters scaled two 105-foot fire truck ladders, cleared the fronds and moved Bautista-Perez from his harness onto one of the ladders, then lowered him to the ground.Cal/OSHA was investigating this incident.
