Police say the Michigan trooper was approached by the teenager, who asked him for help in figuring out a bus schedule
HAZEL PARK, MI – A 14-year-old was hit with a gun charge after he asked a police officer for a ride in Metro Detroit.
According to troopers from the Michigan State Police Metro North Post, the incident occurred at 8 Mile Road and Russell Avenue in Hazel Park at 9:25 p.m. on Dec. 4. Police say a trooper was approached by the teenager, who asked him for help in determining the Detroit Department of Transportation bus schedule. When the next bus’s arrival could not be determined, the teenager was offered a ride, which he accepted, police said.
The trooper received the teen’s consent for a pat-down search before he would be allowed to enter the vehicle, but the search revealed a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic gun in his waistband, police said. The Detroit teen was taken into custody for carrying a concealed weapon. He was released to his parents pending a prosecutor review, police said.
