Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused China of harassing Canadian military jets in the skies above Asia, calling the situation “extremely troubling,” as he promised to raise the issue with Beijing.
Chinese jets fly in formation during a 2019 military parade in Beijing. Canadian military aircraft are in the region as part of a United Nations-backed military patrol to monitor sanctions placed on North Korea.
“In some instances, the RCAF aircrew felt sufficiently at risk that they had to quickly modify their own flight path in order to increase separation and avoid a potential collision with the intercepting aircraft.”China, which is in the midst of a national holiday, has yet to publicly comment on the events.
