[+]The Washington Post via Getty Images: Four decades of U.S. foreign policy were reversed by the Trump administration on Monday as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that it no longer considered Israeli settlement of the West Bank a violation of international law—a decision welcomed by Israel and strongly condemned by Palestine, the United Nations, and the European Union.
The Trump administration’s move puts the U.S. at odds with the United Nations and the EU, which both view the settlements as illegal. But Palestine condemned the decision “in the strongest possible terms,” with Foreign Affairs Minister Riad Malki calling the new U.S. positionEU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the bloc’s position remains “unchallenged” and that it will continue to support a process towards a two-state solution.
