Trump indictment ‘garbage’ says Cruz, ‘abuse of power’ says Paxton; more Texas reaction.
Paxton, who faces his own legal troubles, filed the heavily criticized Texas v. Pennsylvania lawsuit to the U.S. Supreme Court that sought to throw out election results in four key battleground states in the 2020 election. The lawsuit was later dismissed after the court said Texas lacked standing to pursue the case.
Houston GOP freshman Rep. Wesley Hunt, who spoke at the Waco rally, said the indictment was an attack on “everything we hold sacred about our Republic.”And Houston GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw tweeted out “Unprecedented.” He didn’t mention Trump in his tweet.Texas Democrats said no one is above the law, even a former president, and pushed for calm.
“As a former public defender, I know the importance of a fair and unbiased judicial process,” Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, “I urge my fellow Americans to put politics aside & refrain from violent rhetoric. This is a critical moment — we must not fail it.”in response to the indictment.
