Thousands of records related to former President Donald Trump's efforts to find voter fraud in 2020 have been turned over to special counsel Jack Smith after being shielded from investigators for months.

Former New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik, who was a member of a team led by Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani to uncover now-disproven instances of election fraud, has received permission from the former president's legal team to provide the documents to two investigations: Smith's and a defamation case involving Giuliani.Kerik’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, turned over the documents to Smith’s office on Sunday.

“I have shared all of these documents, approximately 600 megabytes, mostly PDFs, with the special counsel and look forward to sitting down with them in about two weeks to discuss,” Parlatore said via CNN.Several of the documents include materials related to the events surrounding Jan. 6, 2021, that have not been previously disclosed. Kerik had attempted to shield the documents from investigators for months, citing privilege.

However, Parlatore reached a deal with Trump's legal team that allowed Kerik to provide the documents related to the case of Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who are suing Giuliani for defamation. The mother and daughter were election poll workers in Georgia during the 2020 election and said they have been subjected to relentless attacks ever since Giuliani and Trump cited them, sometimes by name, to fuel their since-debunked claims of election fraud. The pair recently asked a judge to rule"default judgment" in favor of their case after Giuliani failed to turn over communications between himself and Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn and other related exchanges.

Court records state that the Trump campaign"has withdrawn their previous assertions of work product privilege," and the records were produced to Freeman and Moss's teams over the weekend. Kerik also agreed to sit for a deposition remotely, which is to occur no later than Aug. 25.
