In an unprecedented move, Israel has banned two US congresswomen from entering the country because Trump doesn’t like them
since last month—traveling to Israel this weekend. Trump is said to have told top advisers that Omar and Tlaib should be barred from the country using Israel’s anti-boycott law, and according to Axios, his “private views…reached the top level of the Israeli government,” a claim White House press secretarydenied. In the meantime, Trump made his feelings known on Twitter. “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep. Tlaib to visit,” heThursday morning.
A number of Democrats and pro-Israel groups in the U.S. immediately condemned the decision. “Any sitting member of Congress should be welcome to visit Israel as official representatives of Israel’s closest ally and most critical source of international support,” the Israel Policy Forum, a New York-based Jewish organization,called the move a “sign of enormous disrespect to these elected leaders,” while Senatorwarned prior to the reversal that it would be a “shameful, unprecedented move.
