After days of unrest, Trussville school officials are revealing more details about how a student’s concerning behavior was handled at a local high school – and now say they want to hear from parents about how to move forward.

“They can take their time gathering answers, but they can’t wait to let parents know that it’s safe to come to school,” said Kristi Jones, a mother of two high schoolers. DeShazo noted that when the notebook was discovered last year, the principal did not inform the school resource officer, the student’s parents, the parents of the students whose names were listed in the notebook, or school system leadership.
Staff also said they planned to call in sick, and some students reportedly wore T-shirts that said “Free Salem” and played a “dis song” about the superintendent Wednesday morning, according to discussion online. “You better lawyer up or get out, because it’s coming,” they wrote. “Don’t you worry about our attorney fees, we have plenty of funds and legal offers to help within the community. This isn’t a threat, it is a promise to serve our children the way you should have!”
