TSA breaks record for number of guns seized nationally and at Harrisburg International.
A loaded .38-caliber revolver was found in a carry-on bag Wed., Dec. 7, 2022, at Harrisburg International Airport. A record number of guns have been found at the security checkpoint at Harrisburg International Airport this year, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
It was the 10th gun found at the HIA checkpoint, a single-year record at the airport during the TSA’s 21-year history there.2021: 2“If you own a firearm, it is your responsibility to know where it is at all times and know that it cannot go through an airport security checkpoint,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s federal security director at HIA, in the press release.
An HIA official directed additional questions to a TSA spokeswoman, who did not respond to a message on Wednesday. TSA statistics show that the number of guns caught at security checkpoints steadily rose between 2010 and 2019 before plunging in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
