Turkey's President Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Putin speak on the phone on bilateral relations, Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shakes hands with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a joint news conference following their talks on the sidelines of the MAKS-2019 International Aviation and Space Salon in Zhukovsky outside Moscow, Russia, August 27, 2019.
Earlier Wednesday, Turkey's presidential spokesperson said the Turkish and Russian presidents will speak about Syria on the phone. On efforts to reach a political solution for war-torn Syria, Kalin underlined Turkey’s support for the work of the Constitutional Committee. Ankara wants YPG/PKK terrorists to withdraw from the region so a safe zone can be created to pave the way for the safe return of some 2 million refugees.
Turkey, however, counters that the S-400 would not be integrated into NATO systems and would not pose a threat to the alliance.
