CLEVELAND, Ohio — Mikey Maloney ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more and Jason Mackey rushed for two scores Friday as host Riverside held off a spirited effort by underdog Twinsburg, 42-30, in a Division II regional quarterfinal playoff game.
Riverside, 10-2 and the No. 4 seed in Division II, Region 5, next faces the tall task of playing top-seeded Hoban, which rolled to a 41-7 victory over Barberton in their quarterfinal encounter. The site of the game will be announced by the OHSAA on Sunday. Twinsburg, the No. 12 seed that took down No. 5 Nordonia last week, ends the season at 7-5. The resurgent Tigers, who were looking for their first playoff victory since 2010, were led by junior quarterback Joseph Pollock, who passed for three touchdowns and ran for another. Twinsburg also got a 23-yard field goal from Tyler Seegert.
